Following the completion of the tanking work, The installation of the SIP started last week. The rain has started so we’ve lost a few days to rain. In parallel, the ground workers completed installation of the drainage, installation of the sewage treatment plant and the storm water drainage etc. I will cover this in the next post including the burial of the HV cables.
Starting the installation of the SIP was a huge psychological evidence of progress for us as a family. Given the journey we’ve been on with this programme, it was a huge relief to finally get going. It also allowed us to walk round the pavilion and imagine how we will use the space.
I have covered the structural engineering approach in a previous post. We’re using the Kingspan Tek System which provide a rigid insulation core sandwiched between two pieces of OSB. The Kingspan Tek system is typically used for Passivhaus buildings.
We’re also going to clad them externally using flint and Vastern Oak Timber both horizontally for the Brise Soleil and for the Vertical Cladding on the house. We’re using Stone Quoins at the flint corner from Lovell Stone Group to complement the Flint Faced Blockwork we’re using.
In layman speak, we’re installing the pavillion first which is a bungalow, we then move on to the lower section of the barn structure. All the above was more or less completed in the last week. (See photos below). We’re moving to the top floor from the 2nd of November.
Sadly, we’ve gone into another Covid-19 lockdown. So, I can’t be on site when the builders are around. We’re fortunate to have cameras around the site so we can see what’s going on remotely.
