Week 12-Substructure-Preparing the ground for Pouring Capping Beam

This week, the post is more or less a photos blog post. The SPAW team, (Piling Subcontractor) have been busy carefully removing the spoil around the piles, exposing the piles and getting them ready for pouring the capping beam.

The preparation will probably last another week or so before they put the scaffolding on top of the piles and then pour the concrete into the boxes to create the Capping Beam.

It’s a fascinating process making a reverse swimming pool which ultimately, that’s what a piled basement is as you’re trying to keep water out or water ingress as it’s called in the construction trade.

The photos below were taken yesterday. We’ve had a lot of rain in the last couple of weeks. So the team have had to stop work ever so often. The noise of the pneumatic drill they use for exposing the pile is insane, We can’t wait for it to be finished and give our neighbours back some peace and quiet.
