Installation of Structural Insulated Panels on the Barn Structure

Since my last update, the work on installing the rest of the SIP has continued in earnest. We’ve had some days where rain has affected progress onsite.

In general, the guys have made good progress and are on course to complete installation of the SIP roof by end of this week or early next week weather allowing.

The nice thing about this now is we can walk around the ground floor now and imagine how we will use the space. It’s exciting to see how things are finally taking shape.

I’ve got some photos below that shows you what the building looks like from this morning. If you look at the feature post above, you will see the front facing part of the house. We will of course clad this with timber later.

Once the SIP installation is finished, they will give it some insulation cover, install the stud walls on the inside and get it water tight ready for the next trades to come in to do their work.

The other activity going on this week is the installation of the Ground Source Heat pump , I covered some of the sustainability features of the building in an earlier post. At the moment, the bore holes have been drilled into the ground so we can extract heat from the ground sustainably without using any fossil fuel. I’ll cover this in greater detail in a subsequent post.
