Week 25: Completing the Basement Inner Wall and Supporting Pillars

As mentioned in previous posts, we’ve had an awful lot of rain and ultimately, ground water over the last few weeks. Dewatering around grounds work has been challenging but we’ve managed to resolve the challenges. More importantly, we want to keep our neighbours happy so the focus therefore is to ensure we’re not a pain in the ass to anyone.

The team didn’t finish the inner wall last week. There was a quarter of the inner wall left to pour and the columns that will support the basement slab as well.

The shutters went up last week on the remaining portion and the formwork to hold the pillars as well. They poured the remaining concrete on Monday this week and have since removed the shutters and the formwork to reveal the cast basement inner wall which they’ll leave to cure and dry for a few days.

We were on site for a team meeting last week and one consistent theme talking to Alex of Torsional and Rob our architect was the incredible quality of the workmanship the groundwork team have put in to form the basement inner wall. If you look at the photos, I’ll add more later, the walls are incredibly smooth. The best part of course is that the basement has done it’s job so far to keep the water out.

The next task is to start putting the formwork and steel that will create the ground floor slab over the next few days with a view to pouring it over the next couple of weeks.

We can’t wait for this phase to conclude. My overall feeling having observed the Colmar sub contractors, Spaw and Marchtech over the last few months is gratitude for the excellent work and incredible craftsmanship they have displayed throughout.
