Week 24: Pouring the Concrete to form the Basement Inner Wall

To say this hasn’t been a testing week for the groundswork team is a massive understatement. Up until this afternoon, we’ve had non stop rain and the groundwater has practically being at ground level all week.

Despite all the obstacles with incessant rain and horrible weather, the team poured concrete to form the inner wall of the basement on Wednesday afternoon. When the team arrived on site on Wednesday, the water was almost 2 metres deep in the basement so they had to pump a lot of water out.

They couldn’t start pouring the concrete until around 3:00PM. We’ve had about 4 inches of rain overnight before then.

The concrete they use is a special type that contains waterproofing materials. I’ll update the post later when I find out more details. In the meantime, I took a lot of photos this week that you can see for yourself where we’re up to.

They’re going to finish the inner wall next week before moving to casting the ground floor slab and a couple of pillars that will be in the basement.

They started removing the shutters used to cast the concrete today. You can see that in the feature photo above. There are other photos above. We’re likely going to need to pump water out until the basement and ground floor slabs are complete. I walked on the Test Way this morning. There is an awful lot of water on the ground from the incessant rain.
