Week 23: Formwork, Installing Shuttering to Cast the Basement Wall

We’re back in full swing this week. The groundswork team have been installing the shutters for pouring concrete to cast the basement wall.

Formwork (shuttering) in the basement construction is used as a mould for the basement structure. Fresh concrete is poured only to harden subsequently. Types of concrete formwork construction depends on formwork material and type of structural element.

Formworks can also be named based on the type of structural member construction such as slab formwork for use in slab, beam formwork, column formwork for use in beams and columns respectively etc.

Once they finish the formwork which they anticipate they’ll finish by Tuesday next week, they will pour the concrete to cast the basement wall next Wednesday.

Following that milestone, they will start work on the formwork for the basement slab before that is cast and poured over the next few weeks. Exciting !!

Here are some photos from this week and last week below. You will also notice that the steel props holding the piles in place have been removed. That is a milestone.

That indicates the retaining wall is doing what it is supposed to do. Keep the water out!!
