Week 15-Substructure-Preparing the Steel Reinforcement for Pouring the Capping Beam

The groundworks team have been busy in-spite of the rain with steel reinforcement and the encasement of the same. Technically, the steel reinforcement bars are placed over the top of the piling cages with ligs designed according to Najib’s specification.

Capping beams for piles aim at transferring loads from closely spaced columns or walls into a row of piles. Capping beam performs the same functions as pile caps.

The groundworks team from Spaw Construction, plan to spray the concrete into the cages this Thursday to form the capping beam once the steel reinforcement preparation is complete.

Once the concrete is sprayed on, they will leave it to set for a week or so before they can start the dewatering process as explained in a previous post.

Here are some photos from today and some from the last two weeks.

The guys have made a lot of progress in spite of the weather they have had to endure.

Update

The Spaw team have finished encasing the steelworks. This will enable the concrete to be poured to cap the beam.

Here is a picture I took tonight showing the state of the site. I have to say, watching the guys do the scaffolding was a privilege.

Prep for Pouring Capping Beams Complete!

This is a dying craft. Not many people want take up steelworks. The intricate way the team wired the steel rods and frames was amazing to behold. The concrete will be poured to form the beam tomorrow, Thursday 24th of October 2019 and potentially on Friday.

We are away in Kent for the half term. So missed the pouring of the concrete in person. However, we have broadband enabled cameras on-site so I was able to snag this picture just now from one of the cameras via the Camera App on my phone. They’ve done a lot over the last two days. Well done guys!

Pouring the Concrete to Cap The Beam.

The guys have finished pouring the concrete to cap the beam. I snagged another picture this afternoon Sunday 27th of October on site. Notice the amount of water! Next activity, dewater, remove soil and water proof.
