I’ll be honest, one thing we’ve been keen on with the house is getting on with some planting. Most weekends we’ve been going to Dianthus with the kids to do some clearing by hand around the ash tree. We’ve planted some bulbs and berry shrubs around the perimeter fence.
Katie did an excellent job with Petra to finalise the landscape design and I’m incredibly grateful for the work they’ve done.
As we finalised our landscape design with Urquhart and Hunt, we decided there was some room to plant additional trees in the water meadow. With the help of Petra Ulrik and Adam Hunt, Katie selected two types of trees. Pin Oak – Quercus Palustris (Standard Single Stem (root balled) and Feathered Alder – Altus Glutionosa (low branching from ground root balled). Katie bought them as my Christmas present which I was delighted to receive and more importantly excited to plant with the children.
It was a monumental effort to get them on site. Katie picked them up from Romsey with the horse box and needed help to get it off the vehicle in December. Jeff our site manager Jack his son moved them in place for us to plant. The trees we’re about 5 metres tall so was a delight to plant them.
To plant the new trees, we needed wooden stakes, pea gravel and coarse sand including some compost and top soil. Petra kindly provided a method statement. Katie and I used to plant the trees.
Here are some photos below of the kids helping us with planting. Shame it was Katie that took the photos so she’s not featured !
In addition to the above, the team have also finalised the landscape design. We can’t wait to realise this vision. Here is the revised overarching plan below.
