So, we’ve had fun looking at various options for the flint cladding we’re going to use for the house. We’ve taken inspiration from some of the villages around including local churches and government buildings.
We found a company locally that does a fantastic job with cladding locally sourced flint. They’re called Pocket Block Based in Weyhill Hampshire.
Pocket Blocks are designed to help disguise joints in flint block work. Their in house designed Pocket Blocks combines conventional block, ease of use and ordering with the joint disguising feature of more intricate designs. We’ve been to their factory a few times. They’re a family run business and source the flints from local quarries.
On our first visit we picked up a few samples. We have since followed up working using our architect’s brief to get a sample wall built. Initially, we wanted 50% knapped and 50% unknapped. We’ve since modified our thinking and gone with 80% knapped, 20% unknapped after seeing a few samples. It’s worth adding that the example below hasn’t even been pointed yet. We’re proposing to use the same stone as used at Salisbury cathedral for the corner piece from Lovell Stone Group. We’re using the Chicksgrove Ashlar & Hollow Quoins
